Yoyogi Park's Cycling Course--Ride bikes with your kids in Tokyo!【Rental Information Included】

With more time at home due to the Corona disaster, some people may have taken up cycling as a hobby to relieve their lack of exercise.

In this article, we will introduce you to the cycling courses in Yoyogi Park where you can refresh yourself amongst the greenery.

About Yoyogi Park’s General Cycling Course

What is the general cycling course?

The General Cycling Course is a dedicated cycling course that runs halfway around the north side of Yoyogi Park’s central plaza.

The course is about 1.8 kilometers long and is surrounded by tall trees and lush greenery.

The distance is neither long nor short, making it ideal for moderate exercise.

If your child is used to riding a bicycle after the training wheels have been removed, you and your child can enjoy cycling together while enjoying the scenery.

Rent a bike at the cycling center

You can bring your own bike, but if you don’t have a bike or just want to visit the park on a whim, you can rent a bike at the Yoyogi Park Cycling Center. Both adults and children can go to Yoyogi Park without bicycles and enjoy cycling.

Enjoy the seasons

Yoyogi Park is a park where you can feel the beauty of nature through the flowers that bloom each season and the changing trees. Cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery in summer, autumn leaves in autumn, and the view between the bare trees in winter – how about experiencing these four unique seasons of Japan while cycling?

In addition to the seasons, you can also enjoy the fresh morning air or the warm colors of the setting sun at different times of the day.

About children’s cycling courses

ジャパンボックス| Children's Bicycle Practice | JAPANBOX

What is a children’s course?

There is an “infant cycling course” for bicycles with training wheels and a “practice course” for bicycles without training wheels right next to the cycle center.

You can rent bicycles for children as well as adults.

For children who don’t have their own bicycles yet, this is a good opportunity to check the size of the bicycles in case you want to buy one in the future.

Cycling course for toddlers

This is an infant cycling course for bicycles with training wheels.

It is often dangerous and difficult for small children to practice riding bicycles on public roads, but the toddler bike path in Yoyogi Park is safe and free from cars and adult bicycles.

It might be a good idea to start practicing on the infant cycling course before riding on public roads. Not only is it safe, but it is also a fun way for both parents and children to practice riding a bike in nature.

Practice Course

Once the training wheels are removed, it’s time to try riding on the practice course.

This course is also suitable for children who have gotten rid of their training wheels but are not ready to ride on an adult course.

Adult bicycles can be rented at the Cycle Center for 210 yen for the first hour.

Adult bicycles range in size from 14 inches (without training wheels) to 27 inches, so they can be used by both children and adults.

Bicycles for children (with training wheels)

Bicycles with training wheels can be rented at the Cycle Center for 100 yen for the first hour.

Bicycles are available in a wide range of sizes (12, 14, 16, and 18 inches), so you can choose a bike that suits your child’s age and physique.

Tandems (special bicycles for two people)

The Cycle Center also offers tandem, special bicycles for two people, which can be rented for 210 yen for the first lap.

This is a great option for parents and children, as well as couples.

Riding an unusual bicycle in the midst of nature that you wouldn’t expect to find in Tokyo will give you an extraordinary experience.

Resting spot near the cycling course

The Parks Yoyogi no Oka Store (Store No. 3) is located near the Cycling Center. It was renovated and reopened in February 2020 and sells hotdogs and hand-drip coffee. It has a nice outdoor rest area where you can take a break after a tiring day.Although the rest area is outdoors, it is also covered, so you can avoid the hot summer sun or sudden rain. You don’t have to worry about ventilation since it is outdoors.

If the park is crowded, there are other rest areas, so take a walk around the park and look for an empty bench.

There are also multi-functional toilets, baby beds, and other facilities throughout the park that can be used by everyone from small children to the physically challenged.

Have a great time surrounded by greenery in Yoyogi Park, a 3-minute walk from Harajuku Station.
