In this article, we’ll introduce four dog-friendly parks  in and around Tokyo. We hope you will enjoy going outdoors with your dog to the fullest.

Yoyogi Park – where you can meet fellow dog-lovers 

Located in the heart of Tokyo, Yoyogi Park is a popular spot that attracts many people. Let’s take a look at Yoyogi Park.

About Yoyogi park

Yoyogi Park is located in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, and has a grassy area where you can enjoy walking with your dog.

Admission is free, and there is a paid parking lot that can accommodate 65 cars. There is a grassy area called Central Square that is perfect for picnics. Of course, dogs are allowed in this area. . There are  also  food stalls and cafes in the park where you can stop by when you get  hungry.

The dog park inside Yoyogi park is a popular place for many people and dogs to gather and meet.

How to use the dog park

・To use the dog park, you first need to register.

You will need your dog’s identification tag and a rabies vaccination certificate issued within the past year. Please note that you will need the original, and not a copy.

Fill out an application form at the service center in Yoyogi Park. You can also download this form from the Internet. Submit the application form and other necessary items to the service center counter and they will issue you a registration card. Please wear it around your neck when you use the dog park.

You will also need to renew your registration card once a year. You can  renew it by submitting the registration card and the up-to-date version of the documents used for your initial registration. 

Designated dog park areas

Yoyogi Park’s dog park is divided into different areas according to the weight of the dogs.

Dogs weighing 10kg or more can play in the medium/large dog area. Dogs up to 12kg can play in the small and medium dog area. Dogs weighing up to 5kg can play in the ultra-small dog area. Please do not let your dog play outside of the designated areas, as it may cause accidents.

Bringing in toys and food

No toys or food are allowed in the Yoyogi Park’s dog park.

Due to the large number of people using the park, please refrain from bringing in toys and food to avoid any problems.

Showa Kinen Park is a vast park with abundant nature. It is a beautiful park with a variety of greenery and scenery that changes with the seasons.

About Showa Kinen Park

It is a park located in Tachikawa City, Tokyo. The park is free of charge, and there are three separate paid parking lots that can accommodate a total of 2,531 cars. The park is so large that it is difficult to go around it in one day.

How to use the dog park

In order to use the dog park, you need to register your pet, which requires a rabies vaccination certificate issued within the past year and a certificate of vaccination for  at least three types of mixed vaccines. You will also need to fill out a Pet Accompaniment Agreement when you enter the park.

If you create a dog registration card, you will be able to use the facility without having to present the Pet Accompaniment Agreement form and the required documents  each time. It costs 200 yen to issue a dog registration card.

Designated dog park areas

The dog park is divided into Open Active Area A, B, C, Small Dog Area, Relaxation Area, and Beginner’s Area.

Open Active Area A is for large dogs  primarily, while B and C are for all breeds. The Small Dog Area is open to all dogs under 40cm in height. The Relaxation Area and Beginner’s Area are open to all breeds, and are used for practice by dogs who have never been to a dog park before.

Bringing in toys and food

Toys can be used with caution. However, they cannot be used when the area is crowded or in the Relaxation Area or Beginner’s Area. Bringing in food is prohibited, and eating and drinking in the dog park is also prohibited.

Komazawa Olympic Park – Tokyo Olympic Games Venue 

Komazawa Olympic Park was the venue for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and is a beautiful park with lush greenery.

About the Komazawa Olympic Park

The park is located in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo. The park is full of sports facilities and lush nature . Admission to the park is free, and there is total of 223 parking spaces within the  two paid parking lots.

How to use the dog park

To use the dog park, you will need to register your dog with a dog identification tag and a rabies vaccination certificate issued within the last year. You will also need to fill out a registration form at the park management office. After submitting these forms to the park management office, they will issue you a registration card, which you should wear in a visible place when you use the dog park.

Renewal is required once a year, and you must submit the registration card and the rabies vaccination certificate for that year to the management office.

The dog park area is divided into two areas according to weight: the medium and large dog area and the small dog area.

Bringing in toys and food

Hard tennis balls are not allowed in the medium and large dog area. Other than that, toys are allowed. All toys are allowed in the small dog area.

Food is not allowed to be brought in or given to the dogs.

The dog park at Komazawa Olympic Park is made of concrete, so dogs can play without getting their feet dirty. It’s also nice to take a walk in the beautiful greenery.

National Hitachi Seaside Park – be blown away by the captivating views

National Hitachi Seaside Park is an elevated park with a panoramic view of seasonal plants and trees. There is no dog park, but you can take a walk with your dog here.

About the National Hitachi Seaside Park

This park is located in Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture andit takes less than two hours to get there by car from Tokyo.

The entrance fee is 450 yen for adults and free for junior high school students and younger. Parking is also available for 520 yen per day.

Heavenly place to take a walk with your dog

The National Hitachi Seaside Park is a great place to take your dog for a walk. Especially the  Miharashi no Oka which is located at the highest point in Hitachinaka City. Therefore, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the various flora that cover the hill depending on the season.

In spring, a blue flower called nemophila blooms, and in summer, a green plant called coma grows abundantly. In fall, the fields  turn red, and in  winter, they are neatly trimmed. The hill changes its appearance with the seasons, making it a great place to take pictures with your dog.
